The typical way we get the ball rolling is to show our portfolio and give the client an idea of the range of services we provide.
Free initial consultation
We will have a meeting with the client about their graphic design needs, (e.g.: a brochure, logo, annual report, website etc...) The client's goals, target audience, budget and time line will also be discussed for the project.
Proposal
After the first meeting we write up a proposal outlining how McCarthy Designs plans to meet the client's needs.
The client confirms the proposal with a signature or amends the proposal for us to recalculate and rebid. With the scope of work honed to satisfaction and a retainer to start work, we'll set a time line.
Schedule of work
The schedule for a printed piece usually goes as follows*:
•2 - 5 days for us to work-up sketches
•First sketch presentation of 3-5 ideas
•Client selects 1 - 2 ideas to be refined into a mock-up
•We take the selections along with comments back and in 2-5 days present 1-3 mock-ups (variations on the themes picked from the sketches)
•During this time we obtain the necessary bids from photographers, printers, fabricators, and magazines etc...
•With the selected mock-up and comments and changes we will forge a final mock-up
•After presenting the final design, we incorporate any changes necessary into the press proof. This is a proof of the negatives the printer will actually use for the job
•After proofing and the client's approval we head for the press check
•At press check the client is invited to oversee the printing process with the designer. This is where we yell, "up on the yellow, a little more blue, down on the magenta" as we adjust for final color of the photos
•and graphics. This is also the last proofing stage before mass production
•After the piece is printed it is die-cut, folded, trimmed and packaged for shipping to the client
